An Evidence-Based Approach to Distractor Generation in Multiple-Choice Language Tests

چکیده
The purpose of this project is to explore the feasibility a new approach for producing evidence-based distractor sets. We use Common Wrong Answers (CWAs), and associated performance data, generated by candidate responses open gap-fill tasks, produce sets multiple-choice tasks based on same texts. then investigate whether these are effective in language tests, terms empirical qualitative review, consider potential impacts production process test material. This explores innovative method content development, raises possibility item that can semi-autogenerate items shorter periods time without affecting quality or reliability. Although specific one task type, it hoped further research will expand applications deliver version may be operationalised across different types development assessments.

Relationship between types of distractor and difficulty of multiple-choice vocabulary tests in sentential context
This study compares the effect of different kinds of distractors on the level of difficulty of multiple-choice (MC) vocabulary tests in sentential contexts. This type of test is widely used in practical testing but it has received little attention so far. Furthermore, although distractors, which represent the unique characteristics of MC tests, are known to influence test difficulty, studies ha...
متن کاملBootstrapping Multiple-Choice Tests
It is very likely that, at least once in their lifetime, everyone has answered a multiplechoice test. Multiple-choice tests are considered an effective technique for knowledge assessment, requiring a short response time and with the possibility of covering a broad set of topics. Nevertheless, when it comes to their creation, it can be a time-consuming and labour-intensive task. Here, the genera...
متن کاملOntology-Based Multiple Choice Question Generation
With recent advancements in Semantic Web technologies, a new trend in MCQ item generation has emerged through the use of ontologies. Ontologies are knowledge representation structures that formally describe entities in a domain and their relationships, thus enabling automated inference and reasoning. Ontology-based MCQ item generation is still in its infancy, but substantial research efforts ar...
متن کاملSyntactic Choice In Language Generation
A considerable amount of study has recently been concentrated on the use of linguistically motivated unification based grammars for sentence generation (see for example Appelt 1987, Calder 1989, Shieber 1988, Shieber et al. 1989). The grammars state correspondences between semantic structures and syntactic ones. In most grammars, several syntactic structures will correspond to each semantic one...
متن کاملDoes number of options in multiple choice tests affect item facility and discrimination? An examination of test-taker preferences
Multiple Choice tests are utilized widely in educational assessment because of their objectivity, ease of scoring, and reliability. This study aimed to compare IF and ID of MC vocabulary test items and attempted to find whether these indices are affected by the number of options. To this end, four 20 item stem equivalent vocabulary tests (3-, 4-, 5-, and 6-option MC) were administered to 194 (1...
